Lee Russell, a photographer went to Santa Clara and asked if he could take pictures. Mom remembers that he came and took pictures thoughout the town and even into the classroom. She believes that he announced he would be coming because she didn't wear ringlets to school every day and her hair shows obvious care.

These pictures are a fabulous historic find, but even better is having Mom (Edna Gubler Hunt) and Aunt Jewell (Jewell Gubler Frei) look at the photos and identify them for the future generations to enjoy.

I was able to spend a day a week in Santa Clara while my Mother was helping care for my Grandmother Eliza Hafen Gubler. It became my second childhood home. I am related to half the town and found some great friends, some life-long, from this beautiful little town.

It has changed a great deal with many more homes moving in and a decorative main street. I lived there two summers with Aunt Jewell and Uncle Shelby while I found work at Dick's Cafe. I loved the area, the people and walking through the town. One of my favorite memories is the streets lined with sycamore trees with their spiked balls that fell on the ground, and the coolest bark I'd ever seen.

I hope these bring a smile to your face as you remember some of the Clary folk.
